Match pewter maintenance

Pewter tarnishes very slowly and requires almost no maintenance. Should you want to polish your pewter, almost any metal polish will do. (Read the container before you purchase.) We prefer Cape Cod Metal Polish. It is sold in many hardware stores, is very easy to use, and smells good too.

MATCH PEWTER does not contain lead and is completely food safe. To clean your pewter after using it to serve food, hand wash in warm water using a liquid dish soap. Dry the pewter completely. If water is allowed to dry on your pewter, it may cause spots which can easily be removed by using metal polish, or believe it or not, gently rubbing the area in small circular motions with “0000” steel wool.

MATCH PEWTER FLATWARE and CONVIVIO TABLEWARE are dishwasher safe. However, if you have hard water (water with a high mineral content) we do not recommend using a dishwasher, as elements in the water could possibly cause tarnishing or pitting of your pewter. This is true with any pewter on the market. When using a dishwasher, we recommend that you use a low heat setting with a liquid dishwasher soap. Please do no wash any MATCH PEWTER in the extreme temperatures of a commercial grade dishwasher. For best results, after washing, handle Convivio pieces only after they have cooled.

MATCH STEMWARE should only be washed by hand, and should not be pre-soaked in hot water as part of the hand washing process. Due to the different expansion and contraction rates of glass or crystal, and the pewter stems, prolonged emmersion in hot water will weaken the bond between bowl and stem.
